Kuchenprofit Spaetzle Lid – Works Great !

After reading other reviews, I was apprehensive over using this the first time. I followed the recipe given on another review, making sure the batter wasn’t too stiff, nor too watery. Also paid attention to the remark “If the lids gets too hot to hold, or batter is cooking on the lid, you aren’t working fast enough.” I only used as much batter as the scraper (small end) would hold. Whole process is much quicker than dropping dumplings by spoonful in water. Fast process, easy clean up, and we prefer finished product over larger dumplings I used to make. I tried working with the longer side of the scraper and the shorter side – found the shorter side was easier to handle.

Makes Knoepfle, not Spaetzle

Was all excited to get this…and then tried to make Spaetzle, with the regular spaetzle dough pushing it through in a tall pot with quite a bit of space between the top and the water in the pot, I ended up with Knoepfle (very small button shaped pieces of dough), they tasted OK, but they just were not spaetzle…tried making the dough thinner and thicker and there was really no change in the shape of the finished product, all small roundish pieces…so I will try again with thinner dough the next time, I think, and hopefully get longer pieces…sieb was easy to clean and came out of the dishwasher nice and shiny…so, overall I am rating this a 3, not quite what I expected, but not bad and certainly a lot faster than scraping them off a board…

Not happy with it

My mother in law has a spaetzle maker at home that looks like the cheese grater type with the hopper on top. She finally showed me how to maker the dough and use the press. Hers did not have a hopper on top, instead she used a trowel type thing to push the doigh through. It was very simple but she said she wished the sides were higher. So that is when I found this one & I was so excited that I bought 2. One for me and one for her. The 1st time i tried it, I almost threw it out.
If I am missing something, please tell me people. I put it over my boiling water and VERY quickly the piece got very hot and the dough started cooking to the top.
The next time I tried it I used a taller pot and did not let the water boil, just simmered and same thing, although it was not as bad.
There were no instructions in the box but everybody always puts the dough into boiling water. I do not think this is possible with this one. And do not forget that the thing gets really hot and hard to handle without burning your fingers.
